On Sunday, June 7, 2026, the Live Laugh Latte Single Mom Encouragement Group hosted by The Kids & Me gathered for a deeply moving LIVE interview featuring longtime member Candis Choice. The conversation offered an honest, uplifting look at resilience, faith, and the steady discipline it takes to rebuild a life while raising children as a Single Mom.

Candis has been part of The Kids & Me community since 2020, but her story reached a powerful new milestone this year—one defined by education, homeownership, entrepreneurship, and unwavering faith.

Building a Life with Intention

From the beginning of the interview, Candis made one thing clear: her journey has never been accidental. It has been planned, prayed over, and written down.

As a single mother of two, she described herself as a “dreamer with structure”—someone who sets goals, breaks them into steps, and leans on both faith and organization to move forward. That mindset carried her through some of life’s most demanding seasons, including rebuilding after instability and choosing a different future for her children.

Her motivation has always been rooted in providing safety, stability, and opportunity for her family.

Education Against the Odds

One of the most powerful chapters of Candis’s story is her academic journey. After multiple attempts over the years, she earned her high school diploma in 2019, opening the door to higher education.

She went on to attend Central Piedmont Community College, where she earned her associate degree, and later transferred to the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in public health.

Her decision to study public health wasn’t random—it was personal. Diagnosed with lupus at 16, Candis transformed her lived experience into purpose. Today, she aspires to become a health inspector or community health advocate, helping others navigate systems that once felt overwhelming to her.

Entrepreneurship

Before completing her degree, Candis also stepped into entrepreneurship by launching Righteous Touch Cleaning Service during the COVID-19 pandemic. For three years, she built and managed the business while raising her children, focusing especially on serving seniors in her community.

She credits much of her ability to manage it all to discipline and systems—especially her iPhone calendar, which she used as a daily planning tool to balance clients, parenting, and later, school responsibilities.

Eventually, as school demands increased, she scaled back the business, but the experience left a lasting impact: confidence, independence, and proof that she could build something from the ground up.

A Home Built on Sweat Equity and Faith

Another defining achievement came through homeownership with Habitat for Humanity. Candis described the 2.5-year process as both challenging and deeply meaningful—one that included credit counseling, sweat equity hours, and even writing scriptures inside the framing of her future home during construction.

That home is more than a structure; it represents endurance, patience, and answered prayers.

The Power of Mentorship

and Community

Throughout her journey, Candis emphasized the importance of mentorship, particularly her relationship with Sandra Brooks -The Kids & Me Vice President and Co-Founder. Candis described her mentor Sandra as a mother-like figure whose guidance, encouragement, and accountability helped her stay grounded through multiple life transitions.

Their bond extended beyond mentorship—becoming a relationship built on trust, faith, and mutual growth. Sandra even visited Candis’s new home before relocating to Panama as a missionary, marking a meaningful full-circle moment in their relationship.

Faith as a Foundation, Not a Last Resort

A central theme of the conversation was faith—not as something reactive, but as something daily and intentional.

Candis shared how scripture anchors her during stress:

  • “Be still and know that I am God”

  • “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”

Rather than viewing faith as separate from planning or productivity, she integrates it into her routines—starting her mornings with reflection, prayer, and intentional focus.

Her advice to other single mothers was simple but grounded: give yourself grace, trust your process, and don’t rush what is still being built.

Motherhood, Timing, and Patience

Candis also spoke openly about relationships and timing. Rather than rushing into partnership, she has chosen patience—waiting for a relationship aligned with her values and faith.

Her focus remains on her children: supporting her daughter’s college journey at Winston-Salem State University and preparing her son for his transition into high school.

Her message was not about delay—it was about discernment.

Closing Reflections

The interview ended with audience questions about business, faith, and navigating hardship as a single parent. Candis’s responses consistently returned to the same themes: discipline, prayer, structure, and community.

She did not present a life without struggle. Instead, she presented a life built through it.

And for the mothers in attendance, her story served as a reminder that progress is not always fast—but it is possible, especially when faith and action move together.
