Let The Kids & Me help you as you help Single Mom Families.
Zoom Info is below.
...represent a collaboration among The Kids & Me and churches in Mecklenburg and surrounding counties of any denomination recognizing the need for ministry to Single Moms and their children.
Pooling efforts together, Church Partners establish their own in-house ministry to Single Mom families (as simple as a twice-per-month support group meeting) while also benefiting from the network of churches to provide services they may not be able to provide on their own (like mentoring or minor home repair) .
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. Matthew 5:16

What Part does
The Kids & Me play?
The Kids and Me establishes community for Single Mom families connecting them to one another and church families across Charlotte/Mecklenburg and surrounding counties.
The Kids and Me shoulders the cost of promotion and event production and brings Single Moms together through a large, highly-publicized fun event: Mom's Moments.
The Kids and Me supports each Church Partner in establishing its own Single Mom Ministry with Lady Leader Training which includes advising and pointing to resources to maintain support group meetings. Recommended discussion topics focus on Biblical instruction in parenting, finances, and health & wellness. The Kids & Me offers a LENDING LIBRARY for Church Partners to explore ministry helps and to choose curriculum.
The Kids and Me coordinates volunteers across Mecklenburg and surrounding counties to provide support services to Single Moms and their children.
The Urgent Need
for single parent Ministry
The Sheer Number of Single Parents
In 1951, approximately 22% of the United States population lived in a single-parent home. By 1998, the number had risen to 34%. Today, nearly 50% of babies are born into a single-parent home. The number of single-parent homes in the U.S. today is 17 million and rising daily. 1
In the area including Mecklenburg County and the surrounding 10 counties (including Lancaster and York SC), there are 72,000 Single Moms representing children 18 and younger.2
Statistics show that 2/3 of single mothers are unchurched. 3 Knowing the probability of a child receiving salvation decreases as a child gets older brings an intense sense of urgency to our effort. 4
of Single Parenthood on Children
The problems single moms face bear greatly on our community. Thirty-two percent of single mothers with children under 18 in Mecklenburg County live in poverty. 5 Along with poverty come higher rates of crime, violence, suicide, drugs, and incarceration. 6
According to a National Principals Association Report on the State of High Schools, 71% of all high school dropouts come from a single-parent family. 7
70% of juvenile delinquents are from single-parent homes. 85% of youth in our prison population grew up in fatherless homes. Prison inmates’ children are also twice as likely to commit a crime, thus creating generations of single-parent households. 8
The Call of the Church to the Widow & Orphan
"A church with a single moms’ ministry has a 58% higher chance of reaching and retaining single mothers from the community. Did you know that 65% of single moms’ who connect to a single moms’ ministry attend for more than 6 months?"9
"Some studies suggest that as many as 67% of single moms currently do not attend church--many citing fear of being judged as key. Of course we offer them food when they are hungry. We may occasionally perform a home repair or provide toys at Christmas. But do we stop there? Dare we open a Sunday school class exclusively for single moms? A Bible study? or even a full scale ministry?” 10
“Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.” James 1:27
