Mentor & Tutor Qualifications

Under Construction

Mentor for a Single Mom

A Mentor comes alongside a Single Mom to offer friendship, advice, wisdom, experience, and information about sources of assistance.  Likely, a Single Mom seeking a Mentor will need direction with issues such as parenting, managing finances, and health and wellness.
Often times a Single Mom seeking a Mentor will also be needing advice on career advancement or other special topics.

Naturally, a Mentor who is a mom will have life experience from which to draw for giving advice.  But being a parent is not a requirement to be a mentor.  Similarly, one does not need to hold a degree in finance to be able to guide a Single Mom to identify priorities and set goals for managing her money.  The degree couldn't hurt, but it is not a requirement.

So what is required to be a Mentor for a Single Mom?  A Mentor must have a heart to help, patience to work through the process, and the willingness to persevere through problem solving.  The Mentor commitment is for a minimum of 15 minutes per week, every week, for 6 months.

The Mentor onboarding process requires:

1) completing The Kids & Me Volunteer form

2) completing The Kids & Me Mentor Questionnaire

3) participation in a personal interview with TK&M personnel

4) a training session that is just over 1 hour in duration

Once a Mentor has been onboarded, The Kids & me will seek to match the Mentor with a Single Mom Mentee who has similar interests and who could benefit from the Mentor's particular life experience and skills.
